Binary Ranch had been quiet since the pivot to video production and SevenTalents. The hosting market was a commodity business. But the ideas never left. The digital frontier. Pioneers and settlers. Own your land. The technology finally caught up. Nextcloud was mature. The market was real. People were leaving Big Tech and had nowhere to go that didn't require a computer science degree.
Jim is the COO. He asked the right question at the right time. The answer was already there. It had been there since 2008. The decision was to act on it.
